Presidio Life (Part 1)

With in-person classes at Stanford canceled for the fall quarter and it looking increasingly more likely that I’d be spending my senior year at home, I began looking for apartments in San Francisco where I’m starting my first job after graduation in June. Although it is not the senior year I had imagined, getting to know my new city and figuring out life on my own would be one of the silver linings of COVID. Another was that there was lots of apartment availability so I was able to find a home in the historic part of the Presidio of San Francisco. Established in 1776 as a Spanish military-post, the Presidio is now a national-park with the most amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz, and downtown San Francisco (where I’ll soon be working).

The views of sea and the incomparable natural beauty of the Presidio have been my refuge during COVID. This time apart has anchored me in my new home and though I won’t always have this much time for exploring I started a list of a few of my favorite things which I plan to add to in the coming months and years:

· Reading on the Parade Ground of the Main Post on a sunny day

· Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge on my morning run

· Making fresh green juice with kale from my garden

· Watching the sunset at the top of Marshall’s beach

· Hosting outdoor dinner parties in my backyard

· Biking across the bay to Marin Headlands for a hike

· Clement Street Sunday Farmer’s Market and chocolate croissant from Ariscualt

· Throwing in my sun porch ceramics studio
