Mount Desert Island, ME

July 2017

This year for the Fourth of July, I was invited up to a friend’s house on Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine.  It is the largest island off the coast of Maine and home to Acadia National Park.  Though many Houstonians (including President and First Lady George and Barbara Bush and their family)  escape the heat of Texas and become summer residents of Maine, I had never been and was really excited to visit it for the first time. Maine did not disappoint!  Acadia National park is an archipelago of islands which we explored both by land and by sea.  We hiked in the woods and up steep granite outcroppings, including Cadillac Mountain, whose peak is the highest on the North Atlantic seaboard.  We also explored the coastline by boat—motorboat and sea kayaks. With more coastline than California, we saw just a little of the Maine Coast, but I hope to go back to "sea" more!  Here is a video I made of our week of hiking, boating, eating lobster, exploring beaches and more.
